PUBLIC DECLARATION

In light of the recent announcement by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv, Israel to Jerusalem, the Palestinian Confederation of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPLAC), and on behalf of the Palestinian communities recently gathered in Santiago, Chile, comes to declare the following:
1. We reject in the strongest terms the recognition that the United States makes to the unilateral and illegal annexation of the Holy Land by the occupying State, which has declared it as its eternal and indivisible capital.
2. We believe that with this position, the United States has definitely taken a stand for ethnic cleansing, territorial usurpation, and colonization of the Palestinian territories, apartheid and the forced Judaization of all of Palestine and East Jerusalem, all to the detriment of the rights of the Palestinian People and in contravention of what is established by the International Legislation.
3. We corroborate the fact that the United States should not officiate as an alleged mediator of the so-called "Israeli-Palestinian conflict", since it has fully endorsed the position of one of the parties regarding one of the most sensitive aspects, which is the current situation in Jerusalem. With the recent announcement, the United States has clearly chosen to side with the aggressor to the detriment of the victim, and thereby has disqualified itself to continue the so-called mediation.
4. We affirm that the decision constitutes a mortal blow to the law and to the very raison d'être of the United Nations, since it consecrates the use of force as a generating source of rights, which constitutes a grave risk for world peace.
5. We call on the people of Latin America and the Caribbean, the people of the world, international organizations, political parties, and all those who love peace and justice, not only to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, but also to categorically reject the decision of the United States, which in no way contributes to peace, nor the end of the Israeli occupation, much less helps stability in the Region.
6. We declare that we remain intact our hope of achieving a free and sovereign Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and that the only way to achieve this is to support the work of international and Palestinian civil society by pressing Israel and its complicit institutions to end this oppression.
